Saut D'eau, Créole for "waterfall", is an area that holds cultural significance in Haiti, to both Catholic and Voodoo practitioners. It was believed that in the 19th century, the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel appeared on a tree, and since then, the waterfall is believed to be a sacred place. During the month of July, many worshipers make a pilgrimage to Saut D'eau to ask the Virgin Mary for her blessings and healing. Located on a sugarcane plantation from the XVIIIth century, the Museum Ogier-Fombrun tells the history of our beloved country. Built by the French colonist Guillaume Ogier and abandoned during
the War of independence of 1804, it’s one of the few of its kind to have survived the ravages of time. This historic site houses a vast collection of authentic artifacts collected over time and eloquently illustrates the life and work of a colonial plantation.
